Province of British Columbia and Small Business BC Celebrate Small Business Month Accomplishments

press release image oct 29October 28, 2015 – British Columbia: Now in its ninth year, Small Business Month is observed throughout October to recognize the tremendous contributions that small businesses make to the economy and local communities. It is also a celebration that is used to draw attention to the organizations and groups that help small business owners across the province and to highlight the programs and resources that are available to entrepreneurs.

Small Business BC is the province’s premier resource centre and a leader of activities during Small Business Month. Through a wide range of products, services, education and resources the organization provides building blocks to help entrepreneurs start and grow successful businesses.

“Small Business BC provides valuable resources for entrepreneurs and small business owners, allowing them to harness their potential,” said the Honourable Coralee Oakes, Minister of Small Business and Red Tape Reduction and Minister Responsible for the Liquor Distribution Branch. “I had the pleasure of attending the organization’s Small Business Month kick-off event, the INSPIRE Celebration of Entrepreneurship, and was impressed by the passion, dedication and energy that filled the room. I want to thank Small Business BC for helping to ensure that small businesses continue to grow and thrive.”

Small Business BC Webinar Access Points at Vancouver Public Library: Small Business BC partnered with Vancouver Public Library to offer free webinars at a station in the Skilled Immigrant Info Centre at the VPL Central.

6th Annual INSPIRE Celebration of Entrepreneurship: Small Business BC hosted the province’s largest single-night Small Business Month kick-off event on October 1 at the TELUS World of Science. This year’s event brought together 400 entrepreneurs, government representatives and small business influencers for networking and featured presentations with some of BC’s most acclaimed entrepreneurs from Luvo Inc., SHOES.COM, Netwerk Music Group, Saje Natural Wellness and Nature’s Path.

13th Annual Small Business BC Awards Nominations and Voting: On October 1, Small Business BC announced the launch of the awards contest with a province-wide call for nominations. The Small Business BC Awards are the most visible awards program in BC for small business owners and entrepreneurs, and celebrate the important contributions BC’s entrepreneurs make to their local communities and to the global economy.

MyBizDay Series – Thompson Okanagan, Northern BC and Vancouver Island:

Throughout the fall and during Small Business Month, Small Business BC reached over 300 small business owners and entrepreneurs in British Columbia’s growing business hubs of the Thompson Okanagan, Northern B.C. and Vancouver Island through the inaugural MyBizDay Series regional education tour.

The Good Money™ Talks Small Business Series – Surrey: Held during Small Business Month, this free half-day event is the first of four events from Small Business BC and Vancity that features education, tools and resources tailored for entrepreneurs and small business owners seeking to start or grow their business.

Small Business Month Book Launch: TaxSense™ Accounting and Tax Kit: To coincide with Small Business Month, Small Business BC, Loren Nancke & Company and Certified General Accountants Association of BC released a new accounting and tax kit. This kit introduces entrepreneurs to financial management, and provides guides for how to start their business, track day-to-day expenses and how to deal with an audit.

Throughout the year, Small Business BC will continue to offer tools and resources to help entrepreneurs start and grow successful businesses, as well as celebrate entrepreneurs with the Small Business BC Awards and Small Business BC Awards Ceremony announcing the winners of the competition on February 25, 2016 at the Pan Pacific Vancouver Hotel.
