Melissa Lyon

As an educator with a Master’s Degree in Special Education and as a person with a disability herself, Melissa Lyon (she/her) has experience as a small business owner and she is a strong advocate for accessibility and inclusion. Through her company, Accessibility & Inclusion Matter Consulting, Melissa Lyon has led the creation of accessibility plans in both the municipal and post-secondary sectors, worked as an instructor of non-credit post-secondary accessibility courses, and provided many workshops on various topics related to accessibility and inclusion. Outside of her work in her own business, Melissa is a consultant for various other disability-serving organizations. She has also worked at UVIC, VIU, and Camosun College, supporting their diversity and inclusion initiatives. Melissa is currently on two provincial accessibility committees: the BC Employment Standard Technical Committee and the BC Employment Strategy for Youths with Disabilities.
