Elevation Hair Studio is owned and operated by Cheryl Gourley, 25, in BC’s best small town, Kimberley! Specializing in colour and barbering, my mission was to open a hair studio that provides elevated hair services, for elevated living! As Kimberley is my home town, it is my pleasure to be able to provide not only hair services for my family, friends, and all members of my community, past present and new, but also to engage in warm and friendly conversations in a welcoming and relaxing atmosphere!

What motivated you to start your business and what is your vision for the future of the company?
My motivation for opening my own hair studio started of course with my passion for my career. Having been in the hair industry for 6 years, I always knew that my ultimate goal was to open my own salon one day. I remember feeling all kinds of emotion when I decided to take the plunge at 24 to dive into opening Elevation Hair Studio. Nervous, excited, the anticipation of what my first year in business would look like. And I can honestly say that I know this is my path, and I am committed and ecstatic to see the growth I am able to achieve. My vision for the future holds many avenues as currently I am a private studio, providing one on one service. Being young and passionate about my career I can only imagine that there are others out there who have a passion for hair, and I would love to give them the opportunity to grow their passion and unlock their potential, within my studio! Although Elevation Hair Studio is currently a more intimate atmosphere, I am eager to see the direction in which I choose to expand in years to come!
Why do you deserve to win the Best Youth Entrepreneur Award?
I believe I deserve to win Best Youth Entrepreneur as I put my heart into my business, and am so proud of what I have accomplished within the last year as a solo stylist operation. With the help of my family renovating my space, helping me create my vision, watching it come to life before my eyes, to my friends and members of my community who have supported me for the past years of my career, I truly believe that this is the right path for me. I didn’t imagine opening my own studio at the age of 24, but I chose to take the chance, after receiving such supportive feedback from my family, friends, and clients-past, present and new. My passion for my career exudes through my work, I can’t wait to see what the future has in store for me on my journey as I have become a young entrepreneur!

Why do you think you should win the Premier’s People’s Choice Award?
I believe that I should win the Premier People’s Choice Award as I am so thankful to my community for the outpouring support they have given me over the past year. Starting my business at the age of 24 I was diving into the realm of the unknown, but my passion for not only the hair industry but for being a bright member of my community gave me the courage to take a chance! Opening my hair studio was the best thing I have done, not only for my career in hair; but for providing me with the ability to be an active member in my community, helping other people network to meet each-others needs!
