Best Youth Entrepreneur
What motivated you to start your business and what is your vision for the future of the company?
The inception of our kinesiology studio was driven by a combination of professional experience, industry insight, and a profound desire to address the specific needs of clients in a way that had not been fully realized by existing establishments. My business partner and I have spent many years working in various gyms and fitness centers. Through these experiences, we gained a deep understanding of what clients truly need to achieve their health and fitness goals. We saw firsthand the limitations of traditional gym environments in providing comprehensive, personalized care. This realization was a significant motivator for us to create a space where these needs could be met more effectively. Our extensive backgrounds in kinesiology and fitness allowed us to identify a critical gap in the market: the lack of clinics dedicated solely to kinesiology. In Vancouver, there are few kinesiology-only clinics, and we recognized the potential to be pioneers in this growing and essential field. We saw an opportunity to elevate the field by establishing a clinic that focuses exclusively on kinesiology with an emphasis on injury prevention and general fitness/fall prevention fitness for the aging population in our neighbourhood. Our goal is to bridge the gap between fitness and medical care, ensuring that our clients receive the best possible support on their health journeys. Our vision for the future of our kinesiology studio is both ambitious and community-focused. We have several key objectives that we believe will drive the growth and impact of our clinic in the coming years. Our clinic's proximity to the University of British Columbia presents a unique opportunity to mentor the next generation of kinesiologists. We are passionate about education and professional development, and we hope to provide hands-on experience and guidance for students and future kinesiologists. One of our long-term goals is to promote the field of kinesiology and help establish it as a regulated medical field in British Columbia. Kinesiology plays a crucial role in preventive health and rehabilitation, yet it is often under recognized compared to other medical and health professions. We aim to advocate for the importance of kinesiology through professional associations, and collaborations with other healthcare providers. As our clinic grows, we plan to expand our services to reach a broader audience and this includes opening additional locations in other parts of Vancouver. Our goal is to make high-quality kinesiology services accessible to more people, regardless of their location. We want to become a staple within the lower mainland, known for our quality interpersonal service as well as our training services.
Why do you deserve to win the Best Youth Entrepreneur Award?
Myself and my business partner were both 30 when we decided to begin the hard process of opening up West Coast Kinetics. The process took about 10 months, from incorporating the business, to finding a location, renovations, permits, and finally our first day opening in October 2022. In just two years since then, we have grown our client base to over 150 satisfied clients. Our studio comfortably holds 5 clients with their kins at most so this growth has been quite exponential for us and has turned our nice quiet clinic into a bustling hub of energy and fitness! This rapid growth demonstrates our ability to meet the needs and expectations of our community and as we have a 97% rate of returning clients, it speaks to the quality and effectiveness of our services. Our sales have doubled within the last year, a testament to our hard work, strategic planning, and dedication. In these first 6 months of 2024, we have grossed almost the same amount that we did in all of 2023, highlighting our strong financial performance and the high demand for our services. This financial success allows us to reinvest in our business, improve our offerings, and continue growing. We understand that we cannot do any of these things without our employees and we are incredibly proud of our 100% employee retention rate. Our team is the backbone of our business, and their satisfaction and commitment are crucial to our success. While our team is our backbone, our clients are at the heart of everything we do. Their loyalty is a reflection of their trust in our expertise and the results they achieve through our services. We have built strong, lasting relationships with our clients by consistently delivering personalized, effective care. We’ve had clients that have been with us since our doors opened in 2022, and we have clients that have followed us throughout our careers, some training with us for as long as 9 years. We’ve helped clients with severe concussions due to a car accident get back to running half marathons, we’ve helped clients get back into golfing after having open-heart surgery, we’ve helped expecting mothers stay fit throughout their pregnancies and even maintain their fitness postpartum. Plain and simple, we love what we do. We believe this positive energy and our love of teaching human kinetics flows through our space and that clients can genuinely feel our commitment to them. They know that when they come and see us, they will be taken care of. Winning the Best Youth Entrepreneur Award would not only validate our hard work and achievements but also inspire other young (women) entrepreneurs to pursue their dreams and make a positive impact in their communities. We are committed to continuing our growth, enhancing our services, and contributing to the health and well-being of our clients.
