Tell Us Your Story. What motivated you to start your business? Why are you passionate about what you do?

What started as an underdog story about two Chinese Canadians who came together in life and love despite having no background or business in running a video agency led to a life of pursuing the beauty in the broken and bringing about human flourishing in all their relational interactions. Twelve years ago, Wakefield was born from a deep-rooted desire to touch people's hearts with our stories. We were driven by a vision of creating positive change in the spaces and communities we inhabited, which still fuels us today. It’s not about telling another great story. It’s not about putting another beautiful film into the world or crafting the perfect shot. We want to know you and make you known.

At Wakefield, our impact is not just about marketing numbers. We measure our success by the number of minds we awaken, the hearts we win towards impactful causes, and the lives we change. We meticulously track the social and environmental impact of our stories, the engagement of our audience, and the positive changes in the communities we serve. This comprehensive approach to impact measurement is a testament to our unwavering commitment to social responsibility.

Our unique mission is to awaken the world with our distinct approach to storytelling. It is in our name. WAKE is to awaken, and a FIELD is an open space to gather. From the beginning, our organization has always had a unique desire and drive to gather people together to experience an awakening through our unique storytelling methods. Whether it be about love, social justice, the environment, advocacy, Indigenous perspectives, spiritual awakenings, giving a voice to the voiceless, strengthening the narratives and the why of impact brands, or helping people understand the importance of key issues and world views. Our commitment extends to collaborating with impact-driven brands, social justice and environmental non-profits, and Indigenous organizations. We strive to create clear, compelling, and moving storytelling through video that drives an impact and supports these entities in their missions.

Tell Us About Your Culture. How are you creating a sustainable and healthy workplace where everyone feels welcome? Provide examples of leadership you show in interactions with clients, vendors, contractors, staff and others.

One key challenge for businesses is fostering innovation within their organizations. Here are some strategies that we have implemented to sustain a healthy workplace within our team. 1. Ensure our team understands they are a stakeholder in the client journey and how they can positively affect the business. 2. Create regular rhythms of feedback loops where we tackle challenges and efficiencies. 3. We should actively resource and empower the team, demonstrating our trust in their abilities to find and implement solutions. 4. Celebrate those areas of growth and change weekly and monthly. 5. Embrace pain points, mistakes, and failures as indicators of opportunities to innovate and create positive change. 6. It's essential to consistently reinforce the team's worth as stakeholders, acknowledging their agency, autonomy, and value to the organization.
