Tales on Trails

Parksville, Vancouver Island/Coast

Tales on Trails is an Ecotour company, based on Vancouver Island, showcasing the natural beauty of the Island while providing an educative experience like no other. We take tourists and locals alike, school groups and team-building parties on memorable adventures in one of the most beautiful places in the world. Officially launched in 2023, we started offering educative walking tours around watersheds, beaches and old-growth forests and expanded quickly to full-day excursions and now camping tours. We partner with other local businesses to curate a truly local experience, boost the local economy, and feature different regions and the best that they offer. Local cafes around the island provide us with lunches for the group and the homemade, carefully prepared meals always impress our guests. Some itineraries include partnering businesses that operate caving tours, whale watching, accommodation or other extra activities. We pride ourselves in having great relationships with them and encouraging each other's ventures. Our goal is to provide high-quality hospitality while featuring awe-inspiring landscapes, encouraging curiosity and promoting ecosystem knowledge. We also try to raise awareness of environmental issues while including indigenous knowledge and presence, as our international visitors are often unaware of just how special their destination truly is. We plan on expanding our staff next summer and hope to reach as many people as possible as we believe Eco Tourism and Regenerative Tourism should be at the forefront our our economy.

People's Choice

Why do you think you should win the Premier’s People’s Choice Award?

I think our mission is important and encouraging ecotourism in BC is paramount to our economy and durable future. This is still a young venture and I want to keep inspiring people locals and visitors alike to enjoy our natural wonders and care for them as well. If even for the time of a short holiday I can ensure that our visitors are aware of how precious and fragile our ecosystems are I believe this helps make the world a better place. Operating with tourists in the high season also allows me to host school groups at a lower cost in the down season and hopefully inspire young minds to care for and protect the natural world and the communities they are growing in. The social aspect of local tourism is also very important. Being able to answer questions about local communities, Indigenous groups and life on the Island is a big part of interacting with visitors. Hopefully, others agree with our goal and would like to support us in our venture. I know the communities we operate in are always welcoming and encouraging and keeping these relationships and making new ones as we move operations to Victoria in the future is key to our success.
