RVN Wellness

Port Moody, Mainland/Southwest

RVN Wellness was created out of a desire to go beyond the standard yoga experience to create community and connection through movement. We have mindfully created a space where community members can come together to laugh, play, learn, and celebrate what each body is capable of. We are grounded in the yogic principle of ahimsa, (non violence) and believe this starts with non violence towards ourselves. With this in mind, we have designed classes that are appropriate for everyBODY. We welcome yogis on every step of their journey, regardless of ability, without judgment.

Business Impact Award

Tell Us Your Story. What motivated you to start your business? Why are you passionate about what you do?

The founder of RVN Wellness, Dawn Slykhuis was working as a youth crisis clinician with suicidal youth during the start of the pandemic and wanted to use tools from yoga to empower youth to build resilience to manage big feelings, before they get to the crisis point. RVN has grown beyond our Resilient Kids and Resilient Teen Programs to offer holistic offerings to build resilience for all ages and has become a centre point of connection in our community. I have attached one of many many testimonials from a parent (my favourite one, but we have so many!) about the impact we are making in our community with youth.

Describe and demonstrate, including metrics, your community support. How do you support and uplift your community, and how do they show that support in return? Minimum 25 words, maximum 2500 characters.

RVN is a regular supporter of youth programs as well as other non profit organizations through donations, free and discounted yoga classes, and our PAC fundraising program. Our commitment to our community extends beyond financial, as we ensure every person who would like access to yoga is able to attend our studio.

Why do you deserve to win the Business Impact award?

RVN has made a significant impact on the Tricities Community as a space for mental health that truly embodies a full mind and body approach. Led by a Master's therapist, all our programs and offerings are intentional and designed to be inclusive and accessible.

Tell Us About Your Culture. How are you creating a sustainable and healthy workplace where everyone feels welcome? Provide examples of leadership you show in interactions with clients, vendors, contractors, staff and others.

Our team is representative of the diversity of our members and we are proud to be an inclusive space that is welcoming to everyBODY. We don't just say this, but it is actually reflected in our membership which has a very large number of BIPOC, LGBTQ members, and those living with disabilities.

People's Choice

Why do you think you should win the Premier’s People’s Choice Award?

RVN Wellness does not do much marketing (our website isn't that great) and our members primarily come to us through word of mouth. Our members are more than just clients, but take total ownership of the space - often offering to help fix things or tidy up around the studio. Our members are incredible ambassadors for our space!
