Tell Us Your Story. What motivated you to start your business? Why are you passionate about what you do?

My name is Sam, and I'd like to share the story of how Indiana Bones Dog Adventures came to be. It's a tale of hope, courage, and seizing opportunities when they arise. I'll start by saying that I didn't always know what my true calling was. After graduating with a mechanical engineering degree, I spent 15 years in that field, but it never felt quite right. Deep down, I knew I needed a change, a chance to find work that truly fulfilled me. When I immigrated to Canada from Brazil, it was a fresh start. One day, the monotony of my engineering job became too much, and I confided to my partner that I couldn't continue down that path. With their support as my safety net, I decided to take a leap of faith and restart my career. However, I faced a dilemma - I was never that kid who was exceptionally gifted at one thing, like drawing, that clearly pointed to a dream career path. It was a daunting prospect to change paths after so many years, but sometimes you have to embrace fear to find what you're truly passionate about. I stumbled upon a dog walking job, and on my second day of training, I was taken into the beautiful forests of North Vancouver with a pack of dogs. That's when the idea struck me - what if I could bring dogs from Vancouver to these incredible mountain trails for off-leash adventures? With determination and a lot of research, I started putting the pieces together. Naming the company was a creative process that led me to "Indiana Bones Dog Adventures" - a nod to the spirit of exploration and adventure that would define the business. The early days were challenging, but my passion drove me forward. Within a year, I had 150 dogs and three vehicles running hikes. By the second year, that number had doubled. I finally found a career that brought me true joy and fulfillment. Looking back, I realize that I didn't need to be a prodigy at any one thing. My strengths lie in being a versatile creator, able to wear many hats – finance, marketing, and project management. Most importantly, I followed my heart and found a way to combine my love for dogs with the great outdoors. If I, someone who struggles with social anxiety, could take this leap and find happiness as an entrepreneur, then I believe anyone can achieve their dreams. It starts with listening to your gut, embracing change, and having the courage to create something new if nothing else fits quite right.
