Tell Us Your Story. What motivated you to start your business? Why are you passionate about what you do?

Ended up half way around the globe volunteering at an orphanage in China for a year. When I returned, still seeking purpose, I opened up a self help book store. Ofcourse market conditions for books were not favourable and I had to eventually liquidate after 3 years. This lead me to return back to the accounting field in 2012 and eventually starting my own practice 2019. Bloom Stands for Bloom where you are planted. Everyone, including you and me already possess the gifts internally to flourish and serve others. It took me years to figure that one out :) Now I live vicariously through my clients. It gives me tremendous joy being able to serve them and take part in their journey using their gifts to serve other through their business.

Hence in addition to accounting support and tax services, I often train new start ups on how to perform their own bookkeeping , financial literacy and business finance tips. Knowledge is powerful and to share the knowledge is even more powerful. Why do you deserve to win the Business Impact award?

I believe we positively impact businesses. However, to deserve to win, that I can not comment as I’m sure there are many businesses that also deserve to win. I can promise however that the funds would be used to produce more educational videos to educate more entrepreneurs in BC and in return support these businesses to continue to thrive.

Tell Us About Your Culture. How are you creating a sustainable and healthy workplace where everyone feels welcome? Provide examples of leadership you show in interactions with clients, vendors, contractors, staff and others.

Family & Health take priority and I make this clear to our staff here at Bloom. Their well being is always on my mind as a leader and working hours are flexible. I check in on work loads and work areas to see if staff (I call them my angels) are doing well. Each angel is asked to document what their goals are, what are their concerns if any, and if there is anything else I can do to better support them. According to their goals, work is assigned to support them in the areas they wish to grow in. For example, one individual wants to excel more in corporate tax so he works closely with me on corporate year ends. While another individual prefers to stick with the bookkeeping. At the end of the day, we are all crossed trained, so we can fill each others roles if need be when family or health issue arises. As for clients, we identify areas that can be improved in their business accounting processes and financial reporting. If agreed we implement changes, (with the help of technology) to save time, money while aiming to safe guard their assets. An example of this includes implementing a software application that syncs e-commerce sales to Quicbooks. The prior data entry employee of my client was able to be promoted to a sales manager, driving sales rather than in putting sales data.

Why do you think you should win the Premier’s People’s Choice Award?

Unlike a typical accounting firm, we take a holistic approach to our clients, considering not only their tax compliance needs, but their future goals, I.E retirement, estate planning business succession or expansion or sale, etc. I think this is what differentiates us from others. We are not focused on volume but quality and believe this is reflected in our client testimonies on Google. However same as above, to deserve to win, I cannot comment as I’m sure many businesses also deserve to win.
