Best Community Impact
What motivated you to start your business and what core cause do you support?
Food always brings people together. I always wanted to open a place that was known by every local as the central hot spot, and a place where people could come together and socialize over a great meal, and make memories. We have been able to create just that. A place where people love to be. We pride on buying local, supporting local, and keeping local!
Why do you deserve to win the Best Community Impact award?
Showing support from one small business to another has always been a role we play. Our impact to our community has been shown and proven over the past seven years in business. We support our local clubs, charities, schools and sports groups, so they can stay running and be able to offer something special to our friends, family and youth. We’ve been able to create a place that we know our town is proud of.
What motivated you to start your business, what challenges did you overcome?
Innovation is key to success! We opened a restaurant, with creative and fresh dishes that are always changing, we have been the leader in the food industry for Grand Forks. Restaurant businesses are known to struggle, and always trying to find a way to make things work. We believe we’ve made it past that hurdle with fresh dishes, always changing it up, great staff and a few other secrets! Starting out in a small venue, with two employees, and 14 seats, we’ve been able to grow over the past 7 years into a well established spot, in a newer, bigger, better venue! We’ve experienced the hurdles and growing pains of daily business, growing as well as expanding.
Why do you deserve to win the Best Innovation award?
Always changing with the times, and finding ways to better help our customers have the best experience. Covid has given everyone unforeseen times, and for us to make a safe place and offer freezer meals/grab and go has been a way we can still provide food without having to do our normal dining. Menus are being changed, to reflect the times and the season. Always giving a fresh new flare on our dishes.
What motivated you to start your business? What challenges did you overcome as a Solopreneur?
Starting out with just a vision. No plan. Being a 26 year old female starting a restaurant was some big, unknown shoes to fill! Learning and growing is always a constant uphill curve to strive to do better.
Why do you deserve to win the Best Solopreneur award?
Pandemic has made everyday business a struggle. We’ve had to adjust in the kitchen, front of house, our floor plans, our menus, our internet presence. Everything we’ve had to do had made work so much longer, harder, to try and make a fraction of what we normally would be making. Now throw in the angry customers, masks that you cannot hear through, and all the government regulations. For the first time as a business owner the thought ‘it would be so much easier if we just closed our doors’. And that thought had never crossed my mind.. even during huge floods and other obstacles we’ve had thrown at us. But. What doesn’t kill us makes us stronger, and as a whole, our team has persevered and we are that much better because of it.
