Best Community Impact
What motivated you to start your business and what core cause do you support?
Dasha Maslennikova, 50-50 owner of Symmetrix, immigrated to Canada at age 6 with no family or friends with business experience. Her career started by working in an industry in which my profession and education is extremely undervalued as a kinesiologist which lead her to start my own business where kinesiologists can come and grow their careers. Kent MacWilliam's career started in mining exploration before shifting to fundraising for non-profits and entrepreneurship. After working in Africa's copper belt for 2 years, Kent moved back to his home province of BC to lead a crew of fundraisers fighting for sustainable forestry practices in BC. He shifted his focus to cycling advocacy before acquiring Symmetrix, a 25 year old kinesiology business based in Yaletown.
Why do you deserve to win the Best Community Impact award?
Symmetrix is a small but growing business showing a new, quality-of-life-focused approach to health care is more than a viable and strategic business model in BC. As we grow and attract more clients and skilled kinesiologists, and as British Columbians take notice, we continue to use our success as a tool to raise up those in need and support our community towards a better and healthier society.
