Webinars Through Zoom

Small Business BC webinars are hosted through Zoom. The Zoom Meeting Link will be sent to you two hours before the start time.

After the live webinar, a recording link will be sent to you, which you can watch at your convenience for the next seven days.

If you’ve never attended a Zoom Meeting before, here are some quick steps to take to ensure you’re ready to go when the webinar starts:

  • Test Your Setup

You can download the Zoom app on your computer or mobile device (Android Google Play, iOS App Store) in advance. Otherwise, you will be prompted to download and install Zoom when you click the join link. You can also join a test meeting to familiarize yourself with Zoom beforehand.

  • Joining Live Webinars on Zoom

You can join on a computer or mobile device. Click the Zoom Meeting Link in the webinar invitation email, which will look similar to this:

  • Webinar Tips
    • To change your name after entering a Zoom Meeting, click on the “Participants” button in the meeting controls to open the participants list on the right side of the Zoom window. Hover your mouse over your name and click on “Rename”.

    • Your microphone is muted upon entry. To help keep background noise to a minimum, make sure you keep your microphone muted when you are not speaking.
    • To allow for community participation, attendees will be given the option to turn on their webcam and microphone during the Q&A period and any other interactive components of the webinar. Use the “Mute” and “Start Video” buttons in the meeting controls on Zoom.
    • After joining the webinar, click “Join Audio by Computer” to connect your computer's speaker and microphone to the Zoom Meeting. For the best audio experience, use quality earphones or headphones connected directly to your device.
    • Alternatively, you can manually dial in to the meeting if you do not have computer audio connected. Join audio via dial in by clicking on the “Call Me” tab. Using the drop down menu, select the country code and enter your phone number.
    • A Small Business BC representative is always available to provide support. Directly message someone by selecting SBBC from the drop down menu.
  • Accessibility Features

You can click on the “Closed Caption” button in the meeting controls to view closed captions.

For our regularly scheduled webinars, we have on-screen auto-captioning and transcription files in English available for download afterwards. Please note that the accuracy of the auto-captioning feature depends on many variables and has limitations to take note of.

For Accessibility Month, we have manual captioning for better accuracy. We also have ASL Interpretation available via video. To see both our active presenter and the ASL Interpreters’ videos, please make sure you switch from “Speaker View” to “Gallery View” in the top-right corner of the Zoom Window for live meetings.

During recording playback, you can find the “Closed Caption” and “Gallery View” button located in the video playback bar.
