SMALL BUSINESS BC RECEIVES COMMUNITY FUTURES BC RECOGNITION AWARD FOR OUTSTANDING SUPPORT OF BUSINESS

September 23, 2016 – Vancouver: Community Futures BC presented Small Business BC, the province’s premier resource for small business owners and entrepreneurs, with a recognition award for its outstanding contribution in supporting small business and entrepreneurial development in British Columbia.

George Hunter, CEO at Small Business BC accepted the award on behalf of Small Business BC at the 2016 Community Futures BC Conference Gala Banquet and Awards Dinner on September 22, 2016 at the Coast Plaza Hotel and Suites in Vancouver.

The recognition award specifically acknowledges Small Business BC’s vital role in supporting business growth through on-line delivery of educational seminars and webinars, which provide entrepreneurs in rural communities with access to valuable business training and education resources.

In 2015-16, Community Futures BC and Small Business BC have collaborated on two significant initiatives to help rural entrepreneurs access seminars, including Small Business BC’s Webinar Partner Program and a Pilot Program with Haida Gwaii Community Futures.

Though the Webinar Partner Program, Small Business BC provides Community Futures offices with access to current, accurate and affordable education for local entrepreneurs. The program allows member organizations to offer exclusive discounts of 30% on webinar registration fees to clients, and provides hosting partners with web codes to publish a unique online feed of upcoming seminars and webinars, and social media shareables to help promote.

In 2015-16, Small Business BC extended its educational reach to the province’s north coast through a new pilot program with Haida Gwaii Community Futures. Under the program, Community Futures was able to provide clients with free, unlimited access to Small Business BC’s educational webinars. The sessions covered a wide variety of topics; everything from business finance to digital marketing, social media, and more.
