HR Manager

Location: Vancouver (Currently remote due to COVID-19)
Status: Permanent, Full-Time

We are seeking an enthusiastic HR professional who is ready to join our leadership team as Human Resources Manager. Reporting directly to the CEO, this ‘stand alone’ generalist position is a responsible for all human resources related activities; recruitment, onboarding, talent management, benefits administration, labour & employee relations, compensation, health & safety, payroll administration and strategic planning.


  • Provides professional expertise on all human resources matters
  • Ensures adherence and interpretation of all relevant legislation, policies and procedures and the collective agreement
  • Leads the collective bargaining process in collaboration with senior leadership
  • Completes and processes documentation throughout the employee lifecycle including onboarding, leaves of absences, Work Safe claims, benefits enrollment and changes, offboarding, etc
  • Oversees the full-cycle recruitment process
  • Writes, revises and edits company policies and procedures and related documents as needed
  • Maintains the Human Resource Information System
  • Creates and evaluates job descriptions for both union and management positions
  • Administers health and benefit plans, functioning as the primary liaison with the insurance provider
  • Responsible for the administration of payroll; acts as the liaison between SBBC and the outsourced payroll provider
  • Proactively works on a variety of special projects and initiatives to drive people management practices, company culture, and foster professional development opportunities
  • Participates in strategic planning activities and champions change management in organizational development
  • Provides coaching and resources to SBBC staff in areas of staffing initiatives, performance management, employment relations and policy interpretation
  • Performs other job-related duties as required


  • Completion of a degree or diploma in Human Resources Management or the equivalent, and a CPHR designation achieved
  • Minimum 5 years of relevant experience in human resources as a generalist level or other equivalent relevant experience
  • Experience working within a unionized environment, interpreting union contracts, handling grievances, job evaluation and contract negotiations
  • Experience providing front-line HR consultation and providing day to day advice and recommendations on HR related matters
  • Experience working in a not-for-profit environment an asset
  • Payroll and benefits administration knowledge preferred
  • Ability to deal with sensitive and highly confidential human resources issues
  • Excellent listening and communication skills
  • Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Office suite
  • High attention to detail and strong organizational abilities
  • Able to work in team environment and independently
  • Comfortable with public speaking & presentations is an asset
  • General knowledge of a wide variety of business subjects & an entrepreneurial mindset
  • Ability to speak and write in additional languages (French, Mandarin, Farsi, Spanish) considered an asset
