Spirit of the West Adventures

Campbell River, Vancouver Island/Coast

Spirit of the West Adventures operates muli-day sea-kayaking adventures from northern Vancouver Island, the Central Coast and internationally. We care deeply about these wild places and we love being able to share them with you! We've been in operation since 1997 and we are grateful to have established basecamps and permits in highly desirable wilderness areas and prime wildlife habitats. We’re passionate about operating our business in a way that is productive and beneficial to the larger ecosystem. For us, it’s about more than just protecting what’s left; it’s about finding active ways for natural environments to flourish. Beyond lightening our daily footprint while on tour, we use our business as an avenue to advocate for ethical outdoor practices, support conservation initiatives, and give back to our local community. We believe that travel can be nourishing for you and the people, places and wildlife you encounter along the way.

E-Commerce Experience Award

How have you optimized your e-commerce store to create a strong user experience for your community, (through content, education, reviews etc.) and what results have you achieved?

Our website is user-friendly with all the information that someone needs to know to book a tour with us. Guests can create and confirm reservations quickly and easily online with a personalized follow-up from our reservations team. Through marketing, we send out emails to unique lists of people on our mailing list based on their interests and past inquiries. We collect important guest information through digital online forms, making completion of these forms seamless and inclusive for those requiring voice to text or larger print etc. Not only is this simple and quick for our guests but ensures we get the information that we need for preparation in a timely and complete manner. Outside of our tours, we try our best to highlight other local small businesses as well as indigenous-owned and operated businesses for services we do not provide (accommodation before and after your tour, transportation, vessel-operated whale-watching tours, etc.) We highlight on our e-platforms that we follow best practices regarding wildlife to ensure ethical and sustainable interactions and educate our guests so they leave us with this knowledge and appreciation for these spectacular creatures. All digital assets used adhere to whale-watching guidelines. Ethical and sustainable interactions extend to many aspects of our business including interactions with our community and suppliers.

Why do you deserve to win the E-Commerce Experience Award?

Our team has been working very hard, and collaborating with each other to get us here. We learn as we go, teach each other and rarely contract out work to third parties. We are very proud of the progress that we have made as a team and continue to learn new things every day. We contribute to our community by growing our employee's skills and empowering them to take on tasks they are passionate about and interested in learning more about. We are fortunate to receive great feedback from people who use our website and interact with our digital presence. Our grassroots approach broadens the skills of our team and offers additional employment skills they may not have an opportunity to otherwise access. We are very grateful to be considered for this award.
