In Vancouver, a silent healthcare crisis has been unfolding, particularly affecting seniors who struggle to access primary care due to a shortage of family doctors and widespread burnout among practitioners. Against this backdrop, Dr. Laura Hume and I, with our combined expertise in medicine and healthcare management, decided to create a solution. Motivated by the challenges faced by patients without family doctors and the increasing number of clinic closures in British Columbia, we envisioned a modern family practice that blends advanced technology with traditional values of compassionate, patient-centered care. Our goal was to establish a clinic where doctors could practice without the overwhelming burden of administrative tasks and where patients could receive timely and empathetic care. We assembled a team of nine exceptional family doctors and two efficient office administrators, whose skills in workflow management and technology implementation were crucial in creating a seamless operational environment. To combat physician burnout, we adopted smart technology systems for managing patient records, appointment scheduling, and communication, significantly reducing administrative burdens and allowing doctors to focus more on patient care. This approach not only improved job satisfaction but also enhanced the quality of care provided. In January 2024, we opened our clinic with a mission to serve the community, particularly senior patients most affected by the doctor shortage. Within a few months, we had accepted over 300 patients, many of whom had previously struggled to find consistent and compassionate care. These patients now have access to a dedicated team of professionals invested in their well-being. While we are proud of our achievements, our journey is far from over. We aim to continue expanding our team, bringing on more family doctors who share our passion for patient care and our commitment to combating burnout. By doing so, we hope to extend our reach and serve even more members of the Vancouver community. Our story is one of passion, purpose, and dedication—a story of recognizing a critical need and responding with empathy and innovation. We prioritize senior care and telehealth. Metrics show 300+ new patients without Family Doctor's accepted, high workshop attendance, and community referrals. Word of mouth, City of Vancouver council meetings, Facebook group advertising, and patients support up by leaving 5-star Google reviews enhance our reputation and attract more doctors and patients.
