Buccaneer Marina & Resort Ltd

Halfmoon Bay, Vancouver Island/Coast

Buccaneer Marina began in with the purchase of Stones Marina, in Secret Cove, by the Mercer Family in 1968. Jack and Jeannie Mercer with their family of six ran the small seasonal marina with floats made of logs, and one water taxi call Secret 1. Times were lean since Sechelt, and Secret Cove were relatively unknown at that time. The plan was to build a resort so the whole family could work together. Unfortunately that was unable to be done, so the family adapted and started a boat repair shop, and fuel dock. Over the next 50 years the family kept the marina running developing the service centre, as well as providing tackle, bait and fuel for fishermen, and a water taxi now that runs between Secret Cove, and Thormanby Island for the locals, and the tourists going to Buccaneer Bay Marine Park.

People's Choice

Why do you think you should win the Premier’s People’s Choice Award?

Buccaneer Marina has adapted and thrived in a short seasonal market for over 50 years. We have become a business which customers can rely on. We help them through their holidays if the boat breaks down, get them to or from Thormanby Island for regular trips, and emergencies. We provide fuel for boats, and tackle for fishing. We're open year round, when many others close for the winter, and it's still a family owned business with close ties to the community.
