UpMedia Video exists to empower positive impact brands and organizations with uplifting videos and animations. With a focus on Justice, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion, we are a team of storytelling experts who are here to get to the heart of what you do and WHY you do it. With more two decades of combined experience in marketing and media across all forms, we know how to get you noticed! And make it happen in an environmentally sustainable way ;) Our previous work has appeared on Netflix and HBO, but more importantly, it thrives on the website and social media pages of our clients. We position our client’s brand as the wise mentor, which adds authority to their brand messaging, and then place their client at the centre of the story. This process invites your audience into a narrative they can actually relate to, and emotionally connect with.
Business Impact Award
Tell Us Your Story. What motivated you to start your business? Why are you passionate about what you do?
After working in the traditional Film & TV industry, we knew there had to be a way to still be involved with creating meaningful content that didn't force us to work 16-hour days. At the same time, every small business owner we knew was saying how much they wished they could afford to have a video about their company. Our two founders both grew up in family businesses, so this seemed like the perfect way to make an impact and offer something that was really needed, while making it affordable for SME budgets. Over the past 10 years, our vision has evolved a lot. We work primarily with nonprofits and sustainability brands to make 3D Animations, 2D Animated Explainer videos, Commercials, and Promotional videos that showcase the amazing ways they help people and/or solve everyday problems to make the world a better place.
Describe and demonstrate, including metrics, your community support. How do you support and uplift your community, and how do they show that support in return? Minimum 25 words, maximum 2500 characters.
In 2022, after so many agricultural businesses were struggling due to the extreme climate changes in recent years, we donated $17,000 of our time to BC small farms to create content to increase their sales. This was done with the goal of "supporting local" by growing their audiences on social media, so more people would know about the delicious things they grow and what they produce on their land. In support of the Black Lives Matter movement, we chose to take a stand within our business to further promote Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion. In an industry with a history of giving opportunities primarily to caucasian men, we set ourselves a target of having 50% or more of the roles in our projects held by people from underrepresented groups. That means we hire women and people of colour to be on-camera and behind the scenes in at least half of our positions for each video or animation, and everyone is paid a living wage, or higher.
Why do you deserve to win the Business Impact award?
We are in the queue to become a certified B Corporation through B Lab. We've been able to pre-qualify for this honour because our work creates massive ripple effects for all the missions that our amazing clients work hard to make happen. Sharing their stories and growing their audiences means more people and businesses can donate or choose to purchase these impact focussed alternatives. We are so proud to have been trusted to understand and translate their incredible work into engaging promotional videos, 2D animated explainer videos, and 3D animations. All while keeping our environmental footprint small!
Tell Us About Your Culture. How are you creating a sustainable and healthy workplace where everyone feels welcome? Provide examples of leadership you show in interactions with clients, vendors, contractors, staff and others.
Bringing your full self to work makes a world of difference in mental health. We share openly with our team when things are going on for us, which has lead a number of our staff to confide in us at times when their mental health or financial well-being wasn't where they wanted to it to be. Compassion and care are at the core of our desire to have a healthy work place, and allowing for time away or an advance on payment has made things easier for the people we work with. Life isn't always smooth sailing, and we're here for our team when they hit rough waters because we've been there too in our own lives.
People's Choice
Why do you think you should win the Premier’s People’s Choice Award?
We love our community and do everything we can to support the locals and businesses here.
