Business Impact Award

Tell Us Your Story. What motivated you to start your business? Why are you passionate about what you do?

I was truly motivated to start my business about a year out from our 2010 Vancouver Olympic and Paralympic Games. In 2009, I started thinking about what my next chapter would be. Having been in the sports marketing industry for over 35 years, I had learned so much. Working on the Games, I had the privilege of being part of a 10-year learning laboratory. We took the traditional model of sponsorship marketing and turned it on its head, and in the process raised $760M, which nobody thought we could do. A year out from our Games, I thought “I have to take these learnings to the market”. I had been in the industry since the 80’s, and every decade saw new changes, but none were as powerful as the 10 years leading up to our Games. So, I was motivated to take that learning to the market. And that was my true motivation - to elevate the sports marketing industry in Canada through our company. I’m completely passionate about what I do. I grew up as a sports nut – my nickname was “gym rat” and I had this passion for everything sport. My first career was as a nurse and my second career was as a high school teacher, before I got into the sports marketing industry. That pathway allowed my love of sport to intersect with my love of business and being an entrepreneur. Every day I wake up excited. There’s no one day that is the same as the last. I love, love, love elevating the game in our industry in Canada. One of my true passions is our people. I’m passionate about developing young people in our industry. When they walk through our doors, I have a very clear goal that when they walk out – for whatever reason – they’re a better person both personally and professionally. I love my career. I love the people I work with – we have an amazing team. I am truly and authentically passionate about what I do, and I’m truly grateful for that.

Describe and demonstrate, including metrics, your community support. How do you support and uplift your community, and how do they show that support in return? Minimum 25 words, maximum 2500 characters.

Our guiding principle has been to elevate the potential of sport, culture & community. This influences the clients we partner with, the projects we champion and the corporate culture we’ve built. Our strategic marketing team has helped shine the spotlight on all the remarkable work created here in BC through the MADE | NOUS and Seek More campaigns created for the Canada Media Fund. We’re helping drive increased recognition of Canadian creators and their impacts in the media we read, listen to and watch. Our team has also been behind the Fueling Sport initiative run by Save-On-Foods, supporting BC high performance athletes through the More Rewards Fueling Athletes sponsorship program and BC community teams though the More Rewards Fueling Community fundraising program. We helped Save-On-Food conceptualize and now run this important initiative that has pledged $10M in support over 5 years for local athletes and community sport teams. Our partnerships team has helped clients successfully bid for pivotal BC-based events like the HSBC Canada Sevens and the 2025 Vancouver Whistler Invictus Games. We’re currently bringing in potential sponsorship partners to help Vancouver FC launch its inaugural season in Langley. These are all economic drivers that have a positive impact on our communities and promote health and fitness. We’ve also partnered with local social purpose non-profits like LIFT Impact Partners, MOSAIC and the Vancouver Mural Festival, and cultural festivals such as the 5X Festival, to help them optimize their commercial rights and run sustainable programs that enrich their communities. TTG has championed the cause of Women in Sport for many years; supporting WickFest Surrey, doing pro-bono work for the PWHPA, mentoring female professional athletes transitioning out of pro sports and donating to causes like Black Girls Hockey Club Canada. This May, we are continuing to facilitate more important conversations by bringing espnW Summit Canada to Toronto. This is a cause we feel passionate about and will continue to make a cornerstone of our work. As part of our benefits package, we offer staff Volunteer Days and our Elevate Community program - where we match 50% of their donations up to $100 each year. We are a team of sponsorship and marketing professionals cultivating a culture of passion and community involvement, so you’ll find most of us giving back to our communities through active volunteerism in local sports organizations as well.

Tell Us About Your Culture. How are you creating a sustainable and healthy workplace where everyone feels welcome? Provide examples of leadership you show in interactions with clients, vendors, contractors, staff and others.

On paper, TTG Canada is in the business of strategic marketing & sponsorship sales - but our work doesn’t stop there. We’re also a business based on a strong set of values, which helps us hire and develop the most amazing individuals. Our values lead us through our day to day and our workplace culture reflects this. There’s a certain warmth that extends throughout the team, that can be difficult to capture in words. Laughter is always ringing within our walls & over team calls and there’s never a shortage of shout outs, golden thumbs and kudos to go around. On a given Friday afternoon, you may find us in our weekly Chill & Chats, making the 80th percentile for Murdoch Mystery escape rooms or in the middle of an overly competitive trivia session. Days are broken up by group bubble tea orders and signed deals are celebrated by shooting toy monkeys with capes through the air. I always say, the day that we stop having fun is the day that we need to close shop. While we do have our fun, an expectation of delivering excellence is maintained throughout the company – for ourselves and for our clients. We make it a point to ensure that team members feel empowered to take on new challenges and opportunities. This requires that they come to work feeling like their best and most confident selves. TTG encourages this through some of our benefits and team traditions, including: • Wellness Days, when staff get extra paid time off to take care of other responsibilities in their life • Weekly Wellness Wednesdays, an hour when staff are encouraged to do something active • Educational Days + opportunities for professional development • Team Lunch & Learns, when we share insight and expertise with other team members • Elevate You Program, a stipend that allows team members to invest in their interests, passions and overall wellbeing. • No Meeting Mondays, a policy that helps our team avoid Sunday Scaries as we work with clients to only book meetings Tuesday – Friday, leaving Monday for prep We want the best for our clients. We consider ourselves an agency that builds solutions of enduring meaning and value with the hope that one day, they’ll be stronger independently. This requires that we: a) deliver the best, most valuable work and insight possible; and b) constantly prioritize honesty & transparency. We take pride in giving our clients the tools to make lasting improvements in their respective organizations.
