Business Impact Award

Tell Us Your Story. What motivated you to start your business? Why are you passionate about what you do?

I Grew up in India, Punjab and became a Veterinarian there. My love for small and large animals was always there but grew more after my degree when I started working. I loved my job so much and seeing the pet recover and be healthy gave me so much joy. I moved to Vancouver from India for a better life for my Family in 1997. I Struggled a lot , had to pass 4 exams to become a doctor in Canada . At first it was hard working security , studying and also making sure my wife and 2 kids were taken care of. My dream was to open my own clinic and serve the community. I worked and studying just dreaming that my dream will come true. After passing all 4 exams, working and saving money, I opened my own clinic in 2001. At first I faced a lot of racism , people would see me and just leave the clinic. I felt like leaving and running away from everything but I would come home and wife and kids would look at me with such proud faces of what I accomplished. This gave me strength so I would go back and smile at all the racism. After 3 years my business started getting recognized. I love my work and I still wake up and go to work with the same excitement that I did in 2001. I continue to serve the cute pets and will continue to until I can.

Describe and demonstrate, including metrics, your community support. How do you support and uplift your community, and how do they show that support in return? Minimum 25 words, maximum 2500 characters.

My community supports me by continuing to trust me for so long. I have amazing clients that have brought me where I am with my business. I support my community by helping in anyway I can. If its about money , timing , staying late, waking up at 7:00 am to answer the phone when we open at 8 am, I make sure they get the best service the pets deserve. We never closed during COVID and made sure the community was served with safety.

Why do you deserve to win the Business Impact award?

I think I don't deserve to but my team at Cypress deserves this. We deserve this because even during covid we didn't stop we worked for the community , after covid the clinic got really busy , we continued to work and give the best service. My team will stay till 10 pm to make sure a pet is healthy and ok , and clients are happy. They deserve to be awarded. We have been doing this nonstop service since 2001 and will continue to.

Tell Us About Your Culture. How are you creating a sustainable and healthy workplace where everyone feels welcome? Provide examples of leadership you show in interactions with clients, vendors, contractors, staff and others.

My staff is my family. I have had a lot of staff come and go who I still have contact with. My staff is my everything. I will not be where I am if it is not for my staff. I have a healthy workplace because like family , my staff we argue , we get upset with each other but in the end we come and find a solution and laugh everything away. While working we talk to to each other , joke around and make sure its a fun environment for everyone. My own family is close with the staff , where my wife will cook food for them . My daughter will do fun meetings with them and will plan fun events every 3 months for the staff. My clients are always welcomed because for me and my staff it is about the pets. Our priority is always making the pets healthy and happy, nothing else is important.

People's Choice

Why do you think you should win the Premier’s People’s Choice Award?

I worked a lot to be where I am right now and I continue to work for the community until I can. Love from my clients , pets, staff and family says everything about me.
