Business Impact Award

Tell Us Your Story. What motivated you to start your business? Why are you passionate about what you do?

I've always been passionate about business and baking. I started baking when I was just a young girl, helping my mom to bake her deep dish Dutch apple pies. I also started generating income for myself as a teenager in order to pay for horseback riding lessons. One of my first jobs during college was in the hospitality sector, and upon coming to Canada, I co-founded a catering business and spent many years in various roles in hospitality and food service, before becoming a business broker and helping others to buy and sell businesses. As a result of my work as a business broker, I saw a lot of successful businesses change hands and I wanted to get back into owning and managing a business of my own again. It was during the COVID-19 pandemic that I realized how much I was missing the interaction with people and said to my husband that I thought I should buy a business. We had two offers on Butter Baked Goods go sideways due to the uncertainty in the market and I said to my husband one evening, that I was not sure why, but I thought I should buy this business. I cam to an agreement with the owner and the rest is history.... I took over in June of 2021 and have been busy learning and growing the business ever since. Thanks to wonderful staff and a loyal clientele, Butter has thrived, growth and surpassed pre-pandemic revenues. My passion for this business is driven in large part by my love for baking and for seeing customers enjoy the baked goodies and the atmosphere that is present when folks gather and spend time with each other. There is always an energy and a buzz in the café when customers are chatting and music is playing while the scent of cacao comes from the kitchen as bakers produce our delicious chocolate cakes.

People's Choice

Why do you think you should win the Premier’s People’s Choice Award?

Premiers, MLA's, mayors are people too, and regularly stop into the bakery for treats for themselves or their families. It's my hope that they love Butter as much as we do and want to see the business succeed and be around for a very long time. Your votes are the ultimate compliment!
