Best Community Impact
What motivated you to start your business and what core cause do you support?
Purpose is named after my late mother, Devi Ralla, for the way that she lived a Purpose driven life. My mother chose happiness and this radiated to everyone around her. She taught us to appreciate the small things in life and be grateful for what you have because when you’re able to do this you simply become happier. She was a run leader and an educational assistant, she brought her passion and energy to both and was able to positively impact so many lives. We exist to carry on her legacy and inspire our community to prioritize their health and happiness by making healthy food accessible and nourishing their mind, body and soul. Through our food, drinks and supplements we are making healthy food accessible to fuel our community to achieve their best both mentally and physically. Through our social media account and the Living With Purpose Podcast we are sharing stories and educating our community to live their lives with Purpose. When you operate with Purpose, you will find new levels of happiness and drive that you may not know existed. When you choose to do things you love to do, you will go to deeper measures to achieve the desired outcomes. You will realize that you can learn, grow and adapt through any situation in life.
Why do you deserve to win the Best Community Impact award?
If we were to win this award it would be because of our amazing community because without their support, we simply would not exist. We chose to open in Steveston because we were confident that it had the best sense of community left in Richmond. That was recently confirmed as Steveston was voted the best community in the lower mainland by CBC. It’s a testament to all of the wonderful individuals and families that support so many small businesses throughout Steveston Village. We believe we should win this award because we lead from the heart. We are authentic in our products, messaging and our vision. We have adapted our business model to continue to fuel our community when they’ve needed it the most. We have consistently delivered positive and inspiring content to uplift our community while reminding them to prioritize their health and happiness. We have taught our community to see opportunities instead of obligations and we have demonstrated that we can learn, grow and adapt through anything. We might not have the best business model yet, but we know that we have a profound impact. We truly believe that the effect you have on others is the most valuable currency there is. Let’s continue to celebrate each other, because there is an abundance of room for everyone to succeed.. Let’s continue to build each other up. Let’s keep going.
Best Youth Entrepreneur
What motivated you to start your business and what is your vision for the future of your company?
Growing up I always knew I wanted to be an entrepreneur as my father, Jerry, has run his company for over 30 years. He has a very inspiring story and has always given my sister and I the confidence to believe in ourselves. I’ve had an egg and peanut allergy my entire life, so when I was younger breakfast was quite limited. I enjoyed making smoothies at a young age and felt that it was my way to get creative. Unfortunately, in 2014, my mother was diagnosed with terminal cancer. During her battle with cancer we were introduced to a naturopath who opened my eyes to the power of real food and superfood healing. After making smoothies for my mom, other people started requesting them as well. With my entrepreneurial mindset I saw an opportunity to educate my community and offer healthy products to fuel them to achieve their best. Purpose is named after my late mother, Devi Ralla, for the way that she lived a Purpose driven life. My mother chose happiness and this radiated to everyone around her. She taught us to appreciate the small things in life and be grateful for what you have because when you’re able to learn this you will become happier. She was a run leader and an educational assistant, she brought her passion and energy to both and was able to positively impact so many lives. We exist to carry on her legacy. My vision is for Purpose Smoothie Co to be fuelling Canadians to their best lives with ten locations across the country in the next ten years. It’s inspiring to see the impact we’ve had on our community and it’s something I want people across the country to experience. I see Purpose as a lifestyle brand, where we will continue to educate on how to live a purposeful life. We are currently doing this through the Living With Purpose Podcast as well as our social media, blogs and website. Through these avenues as well as new products and locations, we will continue to fuel Canadian’s to live with purpose, and inspire people to learn, grow and adapt.
Why do you deserve to win the Best Youth Entrepreneur award?
I am extremely honoured and humbled to receive this nomination. I am grateful for my amazing parents, big sister and family who have helped shape me into the person I am today. I believe every single entrepreneur deserves credit for keeping their doors open during this time. If you have not run your own business, it's difficult to understand the effort and resilience that goes into running one. A lot of people see the highs but they don’t see the lows and the work that goes on behind the scenes to make everything tick. For this reason, I truly believe all nominees should be celebrated. How can you celebrate them? Go support them. If you don’t have the finances to support them, share their posts on social media and tell your friends about their business. If you wanted to pick me for this award, it would be for the following reasons: I operate from the heart. This is my purpose. To inspire others to prioritize their health and happiness and to show people that you can learn, grow and adapt through anything in life. My business model continues to evolve daily, but I know that I am having an impact. I truly believe that the effect you have on others is the most valuable currency there is and everyone at Purpose works to embody that every single day. Some of the lows from this past year include almost burning out twice as I worked to adapt to our new circumstances. In March and April I worked 29 days straight from open to close while doing daily deliveries. Then again to close the year I lost more staff members and was back down to only three employees including myself. As I look back on 2020 the things I am most proud of include; building a new website and delivery system on the night of Wednesday, March 18th with zero tech background and web development experience. Creating new products so customers could fuel with Purpose from the comfort of their own home. Most importantly is something that I learned from marathon running, and that is that even though I was physically and mentally exhausted, I continued to put one foot in front of the other and found a way to simply keep going. A customer told me that if we could survive 2020 we could survive anything. We did, and I truly believe that. Let’s continue to celebrate each other, because there is an abundance of room for everyone to succeed.. Let’s continue to build each other up. Let’s keep going.
