iDance Vancouver

Vancouver, Mainland/Southwest

iDance Vancouver is committed to providing a healthy, motivational and positive environment for all ages by offering a wide variety of drop-in, progressive and yearly classes involving dance. Our goal is to break down elitist barriers surrounding dance and create a fun and friendly dance space that is completely inclusive. We want to assist people of all ages in reaching their personal goals by guiding, enlightening and motivating you at iDance Vancouver. iDance Vancouver is a successful drop-in dance studio located in the heart of Mount Pleasant and has been operating since December 2014. iDance is a drop-in dance studio for the dancer in all of us. We currently offer open-level dance classes for adults - from Ballet to Hip Hop and Bollywood to Zumba. iDance has become successful by positively utilizing the drop-in aspect of the studio. We host regular classes seven days a week in all disciplines, including hip-hop, contemporary and modern styles which are open to everyone. These classes are taught by well-educated local and world-class instructors. By having the option to take classes to supplement or broaden pre-existing abilities, drop-in classes open the door for performers, choreographers, instructors, and anyone else who wants to enhance their knowledge and physical fitness through dance. iDance Vancouver is proudly expanding across Vancouver! Each location offers an array of dance classes, however, you will certainly find differences amongst each studio.

Best Community Impact

What motivated you to start your business and what core cause do you support?

I started dancing at the age of seven and spent the next 10 years as a competitive ballet dancer. My love and experience for dance inspired me to open my own studio in my early 20’s. I wanted to create an inclusive space where anyone could come and fall in love with dance regardless of their skill level or body type. To build a community that breaks down biases that you have to be a professional dancer or look a certain way to be a dancer. When doing my research on where to open the studio, I recognized that Vancouver was lacking this type of studio for adults. In 2015, I became the owner of iDance and in that time, I have seen the community of dancers grow tremendously. iDance is a space that makes dance accessible for everyone of all abilities, and it’s this philosophy and the power of dance that continues to attract people from all walks of life.

Why do you deserve to win the Best Community Impact award?

We would love to win the Best Community Impact award, to share with our dance community as a way of saying thanks and recognizing the tremendous spirit of our teachers and dancers. They are the heart and soul of iDance and we want to be able to continue to provide an inclusive, safe space for them to dance. Our studios reach a diverse demographic that is a true representation of Vancouver’s multi-culturalism and supports people ages 16 years and up. As a testament to the impact iDance has had on the community, our students started their own GoFundMe campaign during the pandemic to ensure we could keep our doors open and created an Instragram account to show their love and support of each other and the community.

Premier's People's Choice

iDance is more than just a studio to take a class. It is a supportive community where many friendships have formed and endured. It is a place where dancers of all ages, backgrounds and levels come together to dance, laugh, cry, have fun, sweat and enjoy a break from their day. iDancers look forward to coming to the studios to dance, and forget about their problems and life stresses. The iDance team and I have worked very hard to create and maintain a safe and inclusive community where dancers can express creativity, build confidence and skills and meet new people. Whether a dancer comes to class in a good or bad mood, they regularly leave with a big smile on their face. iDance has positively served people with all levels of dance experience from none at all to very experienced and has been instrumental in providing a memorable dance journey. A testament to our success is seen through the number of regular dancers, the commentary and sentiment through social media - including the idancevanfam Instagram page that is run independently by iDancers, and the quality and talent of our instructors. iDance was voted by the readers of the Georgia Straight as Best Dance Studio in 2017 and came in 2nd place in 2020. This recognition is significant. We are very proud to be considered for the Small Business BC reward. We are very proud of our dance family and community. Their support means everything to us.
