Best Community Impact
What motivated you to start your business and what core cause do you support?
I took two things which I love, martial arts and teaching, and made them my life. When you love what you do, it's no longer a chore. EMA supports many "causes" as we are active in the community, local schools, PAC's, and charities like the Food Banks and Women's Shelters.
Why do you deserve to win the Best Community Impact award?
EMA has always prided itself in making a difference. We believe if we impact just one child it can make for a better world. In our case, we have touched the lives of thousands of children, teens and adults. Our EMA family sticks together through the best and worst of times and we do it for a greater purpose. We believe Martial Arts is one of the best vehicles for personal growth and development. You only need to look at the caliber of individuals helping and teaching martial arts in our training centers to see that we love what we do, and we are the best at it.
Premier's People's Choice
We are trying to impact our community in the way we know best – teaching martial arts. We feel the life skills learned by training martial arts can be applied to all areas of life. We provide a physical outlet for our members, but also a community and a place to belong. We have instructor programs where we groom future leaders of EMA by teaching them the skills required to be the role models we strive to be every day. We have impressive physical skills, but our skills in personal communication and developing positive relationships is our strong suit. When these leaders have the skills, they are then employed by EMA as an instructor, or are prepared for university, that big job interview, or a major life decision.
