Best Community Impact

What motivated you to start your business and what core cause do you support?

We are a team of experienced and highly skilled professionals that provide our clients with an array of services including chiropractic care, acupuncture, massage therapy, kinesiology, and physiotherapy. Our diverse team boasts that with our "one stop shop", we are able to combine therapies to help our clients get better faster. We are dedicated to ensuring that our clients receive the best possible care to help our clients recover from their pain and injuries. Dave Balfour didn’t set out to run one of the top sports and therapy clinics in B.C., he just set out to run. Originally an avid marathon runner, not to mention a scuba instructor, competitive soccer player, and rock climber, Balfour’s passion was simplysports, not therapy, until a tragic accident changed his life. In 2003, Balfour was involved in a head-on collision that led to a month-long hospital stay, 23 surgeries, and life in a wheelchair until he could learn to walk again. Five years later, another accident left him with four broken vertebrae. Needless to say, the sports were put on pause and the therapy began. After years of travelling around B.C., Alberta and even Washington to seek specialists for his own therapy, Balfour imagined a clinic that brought “the most passionate therapists, the ones who really want to help people” under one roof. Founded in 2011 and, true to his dream, it boasts a wide range of medical practitioners, including physiotherapists, massage therapists and chiropractors, all focused on active rehabilitation. The center also offers alternative practices such as acupuncture, cupping and cranial sacral therapy. “It’s important to have a diverse team of specialists,” says Balfour, “because everyone’s body is different and responds to different treatments.” Balfour says access to this range of traditional and alternative options ensures clients have a more fluent form of treatment. “Because our practitioners are under one roof, they can share chart notes on patients and can talk about what is and isn’t working,” says Balfour. “Patients have a higher chance of finding what works for their body quicker and can begin getting better faster.” The diversity at Clayton Heights isn’t only in the services it offers. Balfour’s team of practitioners comes from six continents, which helps the center be more relatable and accessible to more clients. Balfour speaks from personal experience when he says, ““It’s possible to actually enjoy the process of getting better.”

Why do you deserve to win the Best Community Impact award?

We deserve to win the Best Community Impact award because of our commitment to Helping our clients get better, whilst paying less to do so. In addition to this, we believe that it is important to be active in the community. We love helping our clients get better, whilst paying less to do so. In addition to this, we believe that it is important to be active in the community. Whenever possible, we love helping, participating, donating, and supporting community functions. We are a place where people seek us out, when they are not getting better elsewhere and are looking for a track record and proven results in solving and finding the root cause of injuries and pain. When people are injured and busy they are not in the best frame of mind. Patients already don’t want to come in. They are busy. They have family events, kid’s sports, homeschooling and never mind our work schedules and professional development. Time is critical- we focus on getting to the root cause of the injuries, with a focus on manual hands-on techniques. The therapists work one on one with each patient- no assistant, no helpers. Using what they went to school for- hands on techniques and most importantly their minds with years and decades of education. Having this private time with clients allows them to work deep and trace the root cause and treat that not just the symptoms that the client feels. This typically means patients will come in 1-2 times per week, and not the typical 2-3 times per week like most clinics. It also has shown with a 10-year track record that our patients also get better faster. Averaging 4-6 weeks instead of 8 to 10 weeks. This not only saves time each week with a lower frequency of treatment- more time with their family and keeping busy but also saves a boatload of money and less visits per week and a quicker recovery time- often weeks sooner than our competitors.

Premier's People's Choice

We deserve the Premier People's Choice Award, because we are the people's choice. We are known in our community to be a clinic where people come when they can’t get better at other clinics, with a focus on finding and treating the root cause, not just the symptoms. Additionally, we have been nominated and won a variety of awards, including: Best of Cloverdale for Physiotherapy: 2017, 2018, and 2019, Best of Cloverdale for Massage: 2017, 2018, and 2019, Top Doctors: 2016, 2018, 2019, 2020, Certified Live Wage Employer, and the Book Local Community Choice 2017. Community support to Lord Tweedsmuir Secondary, Clayton Heights Secondary, Community Art- help them establish and hand out their scholarship awards, Cloverdale Minor Baseball, Katzie Elementry, Hazelgrove Elementry, George Greenaway Elementary. In the health care industry, customer feedback is not typically a priority. It not a priority as most companies know and are aware that healthcare can be subjective to peoples feeling and not necessarily a reflection of their work. We disagree, we want to hear from everyone. If we do good, great let do more of the same. If its not, lets adjust and make sure the next time the situation comes around we can change and make it a great experience and learn from our past. Our competitors typically have around 40-1 00 reviews on google we have over 347 reviews. Not only that we have also collected another 300 testimonies from our clients and patients.
