Best Solopreneur

What motivated you to start your business? What challenges did you overcome as a Solopreneur?

As a nutritionist it is second nature to me to always reading the labels of foods I want to buy at the grocery store. Many of the “healthy” snacks in our snack aisles are not healthy at all. Snacks branded ‘healthy’ are usually full of added sugars or sugar supplements, fillers, and chemicals to improve taste. I’ve always had a passion for making healthy snacks that don’t taste healthy, and that my friends and family who aren’t health minded would eat. Kiwi chips were something I've made for the past decade for myself and friends and family, and after hearing positive feedback for years, I decided to try some market validation - which worked, and Chiwis was born.

Why do you deserve to win the Best Solopreneur award?

I've created a business that has developed a product that doesn't exist in the market, we launched weeks before a pandemic hit, and used the time during the pandemic to fully readjust the business model to be able to have a much more successful outcome, which I believe has been proven by launching three weeks ago and already having Chiwis on shelves in over 70 stores in BC with the list growing quickly. I am also in the process of raising a $200,000 seed round from my home office on zoom and it's looking like it's going to be over subscribed in less than two weeks so there's that! As a woman, who had a hell of a time raising in tech, I feel like this is a FEAT.

Premier's People's Choice

I have developed an innovative product that doesn't exist in the world, and I'm ready to grow this BC based business quickly and make another big name for BC in the consumer packaged goods space. Thanks for the consideration!! Also, I believe we were nominated but I'm not sure who did it, so the letter of recommendation would be that :)
