Best Community Impact

What motivated you to start your business and what core cause do you support?

Being an I.T professional, entrepreneur, and a life enthusiast. I spend my time looking for ways to improve things around me, either through creative solutions or innovation. I believe there is a solution for every problem, just waiting to be discovered. One such issue appeared when I had a home repair project that needed immediate attention. I had called a few businesses to check their availability and their quotes. The variation in the price for an urgent service call was considerable. The experience of calling different businesses and explaining the requirements multiple times was very inconvenient. It was clear that this was an area that needed improvement and a change from the traditional style of operating. The dilemma was that we had so many stores, websites where we could buy products and look for deals. There would also be sites that would compare the price to let you know the best store to buy the same product from. However, there was no such site for services. For any service such as home maintenance, for your car repairs, for organizing an event, we had the painful process of asking around for good service providers or call and spend hours getting quotes. To solve this challenge, we created AllQuotes.ca, an online platform that offers its users a marketplace for services. Users can post their jobs/projects and request Free Quotes from different businesses quickly and without the hassle of repeating requirements or chasing for estimates. We wanted to not just solve a problem but make an impact in our own unique way. That is when we defined our distinctive business model which we are so proud of.

All we expect from our businesses is that they provide fair quotes to the customer and offer the best service they can to ensure complete satisfaction. A fair business model, no commission-based fee structure. A free platform for our customers to get hassle-free quotes. No preferential treatment and yet all are valued members. This is what our company believes in and promotes. In addition, we supported our members and staff during the tough times of COVID. We curtailed our ambitious brand promotion plans for 2020/21. We knew we if we reduced our cost, we could redirect those saves to help our businesses operate on our platform on free membership basis. We did exactly that. Our staff was supported during these times as well. We ensured all teams continue to work with us and have a flexible work arrangement to maintain a work-life balance. We are proud to be a Vancouver, B.C. based company, working to promote conscious business principles, concentrating on collective success through mutual growth and good work practices.

Best Immigrant Entrepreneur

Please tell us your personal story and about your business. How you started, and how you have overcome challenges.

Being an entrepreneur at heart when I came to Canada, I wanted to make it big. I had my dreams and was willing to work hard for it. Started my professional journey working as a software engineer in Vancouver for a financial institution. I had planned my life like any other young professional would, work hard, own a home, have a family, and be comfortable. I focused and set out to meet my goals. Being in a fast-changing, demanding industry of information technology, I soon saw myself working long hours. I always opted for overtime opportunities to make more money and I saw myself working harder each day. Resilience, disciple, dedication, patience all these words soon converted into qualities and before I knew it, they had become an integral part of me. Challenges made me more focused and did not demotivate me and I just continued and gradually met the goals that I had set out for myself. Now it was time for me to meet my objectives that I was passionate about which was to be an entrepreneur. I still had the zeal and the confidence to forge ahead to become an entrepreneur, but now I had less time, more financial commitments, and a lot more responsibilities. To add to the complexity, I did not want to quit my job. I knew it would be an eccentric or an over-ambitious idea to work as a professional and start a new company completely on my own, but I decided to give it a try for all practical reasons. I knew my biggest challenge would be supporting my start-up with continuous funding. Stats suggested that most new start-ups failed due to lack of funding, not because of the concept or the implementation. I decided to support my business regular expenses through my salary. I am proud to say that today I am a full-time professional and an entrepreneur and I am still not out of steam even after 4 years of performing the duo role. I have taught myself the art of managing two full-time jobs honestly, discovered how to clone myself to perform multiple roles in my business to save cost. From my early immigrant days, I had learned how to operate on a lean budget, and the learning was well applied to my business. It makes me happy to see how the business and its brand has grown today slowly and strongly.

Why do you deserve to win the Best Immigrant Entrepreneur award?

Everyone works hard to be successful and we all deserve accolades, but when you are a new resident, you need amplified energy to make it successful because you also have basic struggles to face and overcome as well. Learning, and adaptation skills need to be heightened and though this all seems overwhelming at first, it brings immense resilience and perseverance. I went through all these experiences and made them part of my personality. Starting out alone in a new country with limited funds, and a comfortable option of returning home, no one would want to go through the tough learning phase; but for me, it was not about shortcuts and easy path, it was about being my best at all levels. What I become, how I perform, and what I create, all have an impact on myself and my community. I have always been cognizant of my responsibilities and that is why I created a company that promotes conscious business principles, concentrating on collective success through mutual growth and good work practices.

Why do you deserve to win the Best Solopreneur award?

It takes a lot to throw yourself out of a secure professional world to taking on the challenge of being an entrepreneur; it takes even more courage to take this leap of faith all alone. Knowing very well that you are the only one investing, the only one taking responsibilities, and the only one facing all the risks and uncertainties. I have not hesitated to take on all these duties, I have happily embraced all the risks it entailed and have only tread forward boldly. I have been the face of the company, organizing and managing booths alone at large trade shows, events, and forums. While being in the back-end engaging in all technology demands of the business. Marketing, Sales, Accounting, Hiring, Networking. I did it all and have gained experience and knowledge that is invaluable. I am still learning each day and it makes me more successful knowing that I can present myself as an example to the world that no matter how hard or difficult the task may look like if you don’t throw yourself into it with a passion to succeed, it will never happen. And when you do, it is not impossible to achieve anything. I especially want to be an inspiration to all aspiring women entrepreneurs who are not sure if they can do it alone because one is never alone in the journey and that the journey itself brings partners and players to support your success. Success is not just being profitable; it is also the experience one gains in the process that makes them multi-talented and multi-skilled.
