Introducing Our New Award Category: Best Solopreneur

January 14th, 2021 in News & Announcements

You’ve likely heard the term solopreneur increasingly used in recent years. A solopreneur is defined as “an entrepreneur who works alone and runs their business single-handedly.” These adaptable and hard-working business owners embrace the day-to-day hustle, and are equally adept at managing marketing campaigns and balancing spreadsheets.

After a year that proved especially challenging, isn’t it time they received some recognition? That’s why we’re introducing a new award for the 2021 Small Business BC Awards: Best Solopreneur.

Best Solopreneur Award – What’s Involved?

Our Best Solopreneur Award recognizes the outstanding individual that has started and grown a business on their own. Each day, they demonstrate the unique skillset required to retain a focus on their long-term goals while juggling the day-to-day demands of business ownership. When we assess what we’re looking for in our Best Solopreneur Award winner, we’ll be on the lookout for three major qualities:

  • Resilience: This individual has demonstrated their ability to navigate challenging circumstances while juggling the day-to-day demands of running a business
  • Passion: Their long-term goal-setting and strategies highlight the passion they bring to their craft.
  • Vision: This individual has demonstrated a clear plan to ensure growth, success and overcome challenges that stand in their way.

Eligibility Criteria

We understand solopreneurs are busy running their business. That’s why we’ve made our eligibility criteria as simple as possible. To be eligible for our Best Solopreneur Award, nominees must be the only employee of their business and have been in operation for a minimum of 12 months in BC. If you’re a sole proprietor, incorporated individual, self-employed or a freelancer, we’d love to hear from you!

In order to help you maximize your nomination, our judges will be on the lookout for the following information:

  • The story of the business, how it started and the journey since then
  • How the individual juggles the demands of solopreneurship
  • Track record up to this point
  • Plans for future expansion/growth
  • Challenges that have been overcome
  • How the individual has pivoted to ensure growth and success.
