12 Challenges to Make 2015 Your Healthiest Year Yet

Most of us have been guilty of setting some pretty ambitious New Year’s resolutions, only to drop them a few months or even weeks later.

When it comes to your health, it’s the small changes that add up. So this year, why not mix up your regular resolutions with these 12 easy health challenges?

January. Help someone jumpstart their journey to quit smoking for National Non-Smoking Week (January 18–24) by sharing these free resources.

February. For Heart Month, get your blood pumping! Gather some co-workers and try a new fitness class at your local gym.

March. Try offering healthy food options at meetings for National Nutrition Month, like veggies and hummus or fruit and yogurt.

April. Your mental health is an important part of your overall health. Try taking a 10-minute break every two hours; it can actually make you more productive!

May. Now that the weather is beginning to warm up, try starting a walking group at work! Walk BC has some great resources to help you get started.

June. Be sun smart this month. Make sure to wear sunscreen and seek out shade when enjoying outdoor activities.

July. With around two in five Canadians developing cancer in their lifetime, chances are you know or will know someone with cancer. This month’s challenge is to learn some of the ways you can help someone with cancer.

August. Staff barbecues are great for team bonding, not so much for healthy eating. Try some of these healthy pot luck ideas instead.

September. Create a game plan for your health. Talk to your doctor about your chance of developing cancer and other chronic diseases and what you can do to reduce your risk.

October. Bringing in lunches from home allows you to control portions and ingredients. Try and bring in healthy lunches instead of buying take out this month.

November. Have vacation days left? Treat yourself to some rest and relaxation. Taking the time off to recharge your batteries is good for your mental health and can help you be more productive at work.

December. Challenge yourself to work off the extra holiday cheer by being active this month. Grab some co-workers and go snowshoeing or ice skating.
